Can a guide pick me up, drive me around the battlefields and drop me off?
Yes. This is the most common way for you to experience the battlefields. Whilst it is possible to use your own vehicle, the guide uses a 4x4 deliberately so that you can visit sites off the beaten track and where other tours do not go!
What clothing should I wear on a tour?
Normandy weather is very changeable. It is recommended that you wear stout shoes and layered clothing with a waterproof top layer. The layers can be therefore increased or decreased as the weather changes and left available in either the tour vehicle or your own vehicle.
Can I have more than four people on a tour?
Yes, that is no problem however if the group is larger than 8 people, then this does mean certain key locations cannot be visited. We can arrange a minibus for larger groups. Our guide has experience of guiding groups up to 103 people. Just contact us with your group size and we can discuss logistics and prices.
I have difficulties with mobility, should I let my guide know?
It is our duty to look after all our guests to the best of our ability. Battlefields are by their very nature, uneven ground and bunkers were not constructed for those with reduced mobility. If you feel that the guide should be aware of a medical/mobility condition please, in total confidence, let them know so that due allowances can be made.
Where do La Rougerie Tours pick up & drop off?
Pick-up and drop-offs are available at Caen, Bayeux and Carentan. A fuel charge will apply for pick up & drop off points outside the immediate area.
Do we visit museums?
Yes there are a couple fantastic sites that have been turned into museums. However as there around 50 museums your guide will inform you of the different types of museums and entry fees (he can arrange discounts), letting you decide which extra ones should be visited.
What if I decide I would like to change the itinerary at the last minute?
This frequently happens. Your guide has the necessary experience to re-arrange the tour. If you would like to change a part of the itinerary please let us know as soon as possible, to give your guide time to carry out any additional research. Visits outside of the battlefield may have an extra charge; your guide will advise. Common sites are Mont St Michel and the Bayeux Tapestry.
Where do we eat and when?
Your guide has an extensive knowledge of places to eat and drink on the battlefields. They will advise you on the different types of establishments. The choice of where and when to eat is then down to you. Two locations are almost mandatory stops for at least a coffee, as they contain unique items.
Can we bring a packed lunch?
Yes, that’s fine. There are some great picnic spots around the battlefields.
How much will my tour cost?
Each tour is priced to your requirements. Simply by contacting us we can give you the most competitive price. Attraction fees are not included in the price and you should allow around 25 Euros per person.
Payments?
Yes I do require a non-refundable deposit on booking and full payment prior to the tour commencing.
I am on a budget. What would be my best way of seeing the battlefields?
Staying at La Rougerie Farm battlefield accommodation can reduce your costs. Your guide can accompany you in your vehicle (but please note off road requirements for some sites).
Which extras, not included in my basic tour fee, can I pay a supplement for?
We can conduct in-depth research into your relative’s military past.
My partner is less than enthusiastic about this tour... can you help?
Yes, tours take specific note that not all partners are enthusiasts. Women, however, made up a significant percentage of the work force during WW2 and your guide is able to bring to life the stories about life for the women in the war, be they resistance workers, armaments factory workers or German girls working towards their "Mutter's cross"!
If this still doesn't meet your needs then others have found a day spent on La Rougerie Farm with the animals is very rewarding! Equally should your partner prefer to do other activities then Adrian can arrange for a local golfer to guide you around the lovely Normandy golf courses!
Can you help me to research a relative?
You do not have to book a guided tour for us to research your relative's wartime service. We also have a research only service.
